There’s plenty to love about the little town of East Greenwich, which is located just 15 minutes from the state’s capital, Providence. With a population of approximately 13,000, the town provides a close-knit community and haven outside the city’s borders.

On the northeast coast of the town is Greenwich Cove, an inlet of Greenwich Bay. From its marinas, families enjoy their summers with plenty of water activities, including boating and wake surfing.

East Greenwich is a remarkably affordable place to live if you’re looking to rent. The median rent price sits at roughly $870 per month, well below the national average of $949. If you’re looking to buy, you might find that properties tend to lean on the more expensive side; but there is still a wide range of options for new homeowners. Whether you’re on the hunt for a modest one-to-two bedroom home or a luxurious, five-bedroom property, you’re sure to find the perfect house that meets your family’s needs.

Per data from the most recent U.S. Census and expert insights, East Greenwich ranks second overall for “best suburbs to live” and “best places to raise a family” in Rhode Island. This comes as no surprise, as the town possesses some of the most secure neighborhoods and has the safest, and arguably, best school district in the entire state. Locals cite the town as having excellent police, fire, and emergency service departments that work around the clock to keep East Greenwich safe.

But safe neighborhoods and great public schools aren’t the only reasons why this town is such a desirable location for so many. East Greenwich’s downtown area offers one of the best dining and shopping experiences in all of Rhode Island. Main Street alone is chock-full of family-owned establishments, hosting well over two-dozen of the state’s best cafés and restaurants. The city center also offers an abundance of clothing, retail, and grocery stores, where residents can find anything they need!

This area is also home to the town’s Main Street Strolls. Each year, the town releases a Stroll schedule that is jam-packed with concerts, parades, art shows, contests, and other events that bring the East Greenwich locals together for fun and community. Rest assured, you’ll never be bored here in East Greenwich!
